Association

Self description is not simple....
It runs the risk of alienating ourselves from people, either by using excessive and pompous terms or on the other hand, losing the attention of readers if it is done in a simplistic manner.
Our hope is to maintain a virtuous equilibrium between these two extremes, confident that the exploration of the site itself will speak for us and explain in a clearer way what we are about.
The Wheel of Time is a cultural association born from the passion and commitment of a group of friends. The main scope is for those passionate about historical and fantasy miniatures to be connected and share multiple aspects of this passion.
The people who form the founding nucleus of this association, all share a common vision of the collection and painting of miniatures. It starts with the conviction that this is more than just over grown children playing with toys.
Even at the start of the historical figure hobby, people participating in this pleasurable pass time applied an earnest and rigorous historical and uniformological research to their subjects. They reproduced in scale the personalities and soldiers of bygone eras in a historically accurate manner but at times somewhat unexceptional from a visual point of view.
In the last 15 year, the rigorous historical and uniformological research has started to combine with the artistic side of the hobby. The increase of focus on the artistic side is evident in both the sculpting and painting of miniatures, bringing the production standard of miniatures to a level inconceivable in bygone years. Are miniatures a true art form? This debate is open for discussion, but whatever the outcome, it is obvious that the miniatures of today are no longer the simple depictions and reproductions of uniforms....
Recently, another barrier is also beginning to yield, the barrier between the historical soldier and the fantasy miniature. Two worlds very similar but until recently, rigorously separated. These two worlds are beginning to get to know each other, exploring the points of similarity, the possibilities of sharing and learning from each other and growing and respecting each other.
The Wheel of Time is born at this point in time, but wishes to live and grow in this 'new vision' of the hobby. A hobby dedicated to rigorous research (both historical and artistic), but also respecting the diverse facets and interest of our miniatures universe..... This is the base from which we wish to commence our journey and spread our vision of the hobby, without forgetting the joy and child-like fun and awe which the hobby gives us when opening a new miniature box or losing ourselves in a 'journey of the mind' whilst painting subjects from other worlds or epochs. For those who wish to join us in this journey can do so by exploring and navigating this site.....
Roberto De Meo
Ciao a tutti,
